2024 marks an exciting time to join South Tyneside Council’s Outdoor Education Service, having just recently celebrated it’s 40th anniversary.
 
An enthusiastic person is required to take on the post of Centre Assistant/Trainee Instructor. 
 
This is a live in, temporary post for 12 months which may be extended for up to 24 months.
 
Work pattern:         4 Week Rota
Week 1 & 2:            35 hours (PAID) in the House/Kitchen as Centre Assistant
Week 3 & 4:            Monday to Friday as a Trainee Instructor (UNPAID) working with a group instructor

 
Other hours, such as Evening Duties/Weekend Work may be necessary and these will be agreed upon with the Head of Centre/Line Manager.
 
Accommodation on site and food is provided in lieu of Week 3 & 4 Trainee Instructor role.
 
The position involves working alongside permanent instructors delivering adventurous activities to mainly children and young people two weeks of the month as a trainee instructor and helping in the centre as a centre assistant the other two weeks.
 
Full in-house training is given and the opportunity to complete National Governing Body Awards in adventurous activities and gain experience with a variety of groups is offered.
 
This is an ideal position for anyone starting a career in the outdoor industry, giving the opportunity to develop engagement and group management skills through delivery and reflection, whilst living in the stunning setting of the English Lake District National Park.
 
Interviews for this post will take place on 5 July 2024 at the Thurston Outdoor Education Centre.
