Gateshead is one of the few North East authorities to have adopted a Local Plan document since the NPPF was published, and the Borough continues to implement innovative approaches to planning for and delivering new developments. Major developments are transforming the borough and as a year out student planner you will have a key role to play in influencing the future.

We need a keen and ambitious student to work within our successful planning team. Carrying out a variety of GIS mapping work, including the creation, analysis, presentation and management of information, the successful candidate will contribute to the work underway on Gateshead's Local Plan. They will also support a number of other projects being taken forward within the service. The successful candidate must be able to work positively within the team, with other relevant Council services, and with outside bodies as required.

You must have good communication skills, have the ability to manage your workload to meet deadlines be able to work independently and also as part of a team. You should be able to demonstrate an interest in GIS mapping work, and in spatial planning practice. You must be computer literate, have strong customer focus, good negotiation, analytical/problem solving skills along with a basic understanding of the concepts behind data management in a relational database.
