Since opening in May 2009 the Great North Museum: Hancock has become one of the North East’s most successful museums, attracting over that period more than 3 million visitors. Managed by Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums on behalf of Newcastle University, the museum houses the outstanding collections relating to Natural Sciences, Archaeology, World Cultures and Egyptology belonging to the Natural History Society of Northumbria and the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne and showcases cutting edge research alongside a popular and successful events, exhibitions and activities programme.

We are looking for a highly effective manager to lead the Great North Museum: Hancock, continuing to develop its public programme, ensuring that collections are cared for and made available and sustaining a strong commercial focus so that the museum can continue to meet its income generation targets.

If you have a proven track record of successful management in a museum, cultural or heritage environment delivering high quality experiences to visitors combined with a strong commitment to audience development, Higher Education and income generation, then we would like to hear from you.
