Durham County Council’s has a unique opportunity for an experienced individual to lead the delivery of its Adult Learning and Skills Service. The post holder will work collaboratively with the Management Team in developing the strategic direction of the service and will manage the internal delivery and business support teams.

The successful candidate will develop the curriculum offer to ensure provision meets the needs and aspirations of young people and adults and supports the economic development of the county; they will ensure the delivery of high quality teaching, learning and assessment; lead the quality improvement of the service, including liaison with Ofsted; ensure an efficient and effective business support function to underpin the work of the service including learner engagement, marketing, finance, data and administration; and report on a timely basis to the Education and Skills Funding Agency and government departments.

Applicants must hold a degree (or equivalent), a teaching qualification, and have worked at a senior level within the learning and skills sector. Applicants should have experience of curriculum development; leading and managing teams to deliver high quality learning programmes; developing and implementing quality management systems and Ofsted inspections.

Applicants must have excellent knowledge of Education and Skills Funding Agency funded learning programmes and the Common Inspection Framework for education and skills. In addition, applicants must have proven leadership and management skills, project management skills and communication skills.
