Would you like to undertake varied, high quality legal work with like minded and supportive colleagues who are committed to providing excellent public service and making a difference within the local community?

Following the internal promotion of staff we wish to recruit flexible, highly skilled and enthusiastic lawyers to our Lexcel accredited legal team.

We have an excellent benefits package which includes generous annual leave, flexi-time, access to a Local Government Pension Scheme, and salary sacrifice schemes.

We offer a modern, open plan, working environment with opportunities to use technology to work in a flexible and agile way. Our lawyers operate both autonomously and collaboratively to deliver high performance with light touch management. We provide a supportive environment for the development and maintenance of your professional skills and experience.

We are committed to delivering a high quality, cost effective legal service to the Authority across a broad range of matters.

Candidates from both the public and private sector are encouraged to apply. We will consider less experienced individuals who are able to grow in to the role where the right personal qualities and an excellent approach to public service and client care are evident. It is essential that candidates are committed to the relevant areas of law and have a genuine enthusiasm for their work.

Our particular needs at this time relate to:

ADULT SAFEGUARDING
We are seeking a lawyer with experience of and a strong interest in Adult Safeguarding legal matters.

You will provide legal advice, representation and undertake legal research relating to adult social care matters. You will have a wide and varied caseload including areas of mental health, mental capacity and deprivation of liberty. You will undertake advocacy in the relevant courts, including contested hearings and briefing counsel where appropriate.

You will be part of a busy legal team and at times may be required to undertake work in other areas covered by the team, including child safeguarding, local authority prosecutions and housing injunctions. Experience in those fields is desirable but not essential and support and training will be provided as necessary.

CHILDREN’S SAFEGUARDING
We are seeking a lawyer with experience of and a strong interest in Children’s Safeguarding legal matters.

You will provide legal advice, representation and undertake legal research relating to child safeguarding matters and will carry a caseload of matters in both proceedings and pre-proceedings. You will undertake advocacy in the relevant courts, including contested hearings and briefing counsel where appropriate.

You will be part of a busy legal team and at times may be required to undertake work in other areas covered by the team, including adult safeguarding, local authority prosecutions and housing injunctions. Experience in those fields is desirable but not essential and support and training will be provided as necessary.

North Tyneside Council has been placed among the top ten of children’s service departments nationally following our OFSTED inspection in March 2017. OFSTED gave the Authority’s services to safeguard children an overall judgment of ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ features.

COMMERCIAL & DEVELOPMENT
We are seeking a lawyer with experience of and a strong interest in Commercial and Development legal matters.

You will provide legal advice and representation across a range of procurement, commissioning and commercial activity.

With an eye for detail and good organisational and communication skills you will enjoy a high quality, wide and varied case load.

Your main responsibilities will include drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts and public sector agreements, advising on public procurement law in addition to providing support and management throughout various procurement processes, advising on contractual disputes, assisting with the contractual implications of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and liaising with leaders within the Authority.

The Authority is currently carrying out a variety of exciting regeneration projects, particularly along the coast, all of which require key legal support from our team. The Authority is building new homes and increasing the Borough’s affordable homes. Our team enables Authority departments to adopt smarter procurement processes and adapt services and buying practices to ensure that the residents of and visitors to the Borough continue to have access to the facilities which are key to making the Borough a great play to live, work and visit.

You will be part of a busy legal team and at times may be required to undertake work in other areas covered by the team, including planning, highways and licensing. Experience in those fields is desirable but not essential and support and training will be provided as necessary.

The successful candidates will provide effective support to colleagues and work across a range of legal matters within the broader legal team and will be willing and able to undertake court and/or committee advocacy/representation where necessary.
