To provide instruction and support in horticulture to adults with learning disabilities, and to assist with the provision of physical, personal and emotional care to people who use this service.

You must be able to work individually or as part of a team to enable and promote independence, minimise intervention and attend to the needs of people who use the service, maintaining a safe, hygienic and supportive environment in accordance with the culture, standards and objectives of the service. You will have a good general education demonstrating literacy and numeracy, together with an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Care.

You should have the ability to work to and follow, Individual Service Users Plans, Risk Assessments and Moving and Transferring Plans. You will also be required to produce simple, short and clear case notes as well as working unsupervised as part of a team. It would be an advantage to have an interest in horticulture and experience of working in horticulture.

Opportunity for Casual Care Workers (in addition to the above permanent post): There are times when, due to staff absence or increased demands, additional staff are needed to provide assistance to people who use the service. An opportunity has arisen to become part of a group of staff who may occasionally be contacted, sometimes at short notice, to see if they are available to work with people who use the service at the Horticultural Skills Unit and other learning disability day services within Northumberland.

Please note, this position does not offer set or regular hours and there is no obligation for Northumberland County Council to provide work, nor is there any obligation on the casual member of staff to accept any offered work.
