Northumberland is looking for an experienced housing professional, who will strive to ensure that affordable homes are delivered to meet local needs. The post will be based in Morpeth, within the planning service.

The post is responsible for securing an appropriate level and type of affordable homes through the development management process. The post is also responsible for seeking to secure the delivery of homes which meet the diverse needs of older people, and those with special housing needs, now and in the future. The post holder will draw upon a range of evidence, including published reports, the Council’s housing register, and intelligence gathered from registered providers.

The post holder will engage in the development process from an early stage through providing informal advice and being involved in pre-application discussions, providing advice to case officers and elected members, including at planning committee, to monitoring the delivery of homes on site, enforcing planning obligations and completing necessary housing returns. The post holder will provide input into the emerging Northumberland Local Plan and Affordable Housing Supplementary Planning Document, and provide advice to communities preparing neighbourhood plans.

The post will involve continual engagement with range of partners and stakeholders, both internal and external, to knowledge share, maximise access to funding opportunities, and provide a coordinated approach to housing delivery which achieves the best outcomes for customers.

You will have excellent organisational and communication skills, be able to work on your own initiative, as part of a team and across disciplines. You will provide an efficient and effective service that is delivered to a high standard.

Candidates should be educated to degree level of education, and preferably have a relevant recognised professional qualification. The role requires a good knowledge of current legislation, policies, best practice and initiatives which may affect the delivery of affordable homes and housing for older people and those with special needs.
