Post title: Instructor of Motor Vehicle Studies – full time, permanent

Salary: £20,403 - £28,249 Instructor Scale B (plus SU allowance where applicable)


Job Location: Aycliffe Secure Centre, however you may be required to work at any DCC council office.

We are seeking to appoint an Instructor of Motor Vehicle Studies (plus additional basic trades e.g. groundworks) to provide high standards of tuition and pastoral care and reporting to enable young people to achieve their educational potential. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in enabling young people with complex social, emotional and mental health needs, to achieve success and gain accreditation.

Key Responsibilities:

Assessment: To undertake the initial and ongoing assessment of young people’s knowledge, skills and social performance as an instructor and a Tutor.

Planning and Preparation: To plan programmes of study and prepare relevant materials and resources for individuals and groups.

Teaching: To deliver planned programmes of study to individuals and groups to a high professional standard.

Recording and Reporting: To record young people’s progress on an ongoing basis and to produce regular reports as required.

Curriculum Development: To continue to curriculum development in relevant areas.

Pastoral Care: To provide pastoral care and support to named young people in the role of Tutor.

Partnership: To liaise and communicate with parents, carers, colleagues and other professionals as appropriate

Supervision: To supervise individuals and groups in the school premises and on trips as are required.

Required qualifications: Vocational Qualification C & G or equivalent e.g. NVQ

The successful applicant for this post will be required to apply for a Disclosure & Barring Service Enhanced Disclosure. They will also undergo a full induction process, including training in physical intervention/positive handling.
