Hardwick Park in Sedgefield is an 18th century country park with a unique history. Now a Visit England accredited attraction, the park attracts a diverse mix of visitors.

Wharton Park in Durham has been a formal park site since 1857. Following funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Big Lotto Fund and Durham County Council, it re-opened in 2016 following major refurbishment.

We are looking to increase our pool of enthusiastic and capable casual as and when required staff to assist with the delivery of children’s birthday parties, family events and education sessions. You must have experience of working with children of all ages and of public events.

Duties will include assisting in the delivery of facilitated workshops working with schools pupils ranging from early years to secondary school. The role will also involve delivering birthday party packages and our events programme to a range of audiences including families and community groups.

Duties will include the preparation of all resources needed for delivery and setting up the teaching spaces whether indoors or outdoors. You will occasionally undertake front of house duties in the visitor centre. This would involve answering enquiries, taking event bookings and retail work including cash handing.

As you will be representing the County Council you must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, along with good organisational skills.

You will be willing to apply yourself to various tasks, be able to deal with several different groups in close succession, often at short notice and have a keen interest in both Hardwick and Wharton Parks and the countryside.

Candidates must be willing to work regular weekends and Bank Holidays and outside of normal office hours.

Required Qualifications: 4 GCSE’s including Maths and English or an equivalent qualification in a related area.

The successful applicants for these posts will be required to apply for Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced Disclosure.

Where our roles are customer facing and you are required to speak to members of the public, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
