We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated Estimating Manager to join our specialist team in Highway Services.

Highways at Durham County Council are responsible for the maintenance of the Highway Infrastructure across County Durham, including approximately 3,800km of carriageway, 500 road bridges and 80,000 streetlights.

This is an exciting opportunity to ensure the operational and commercial success of the service

WHAT IS INVOLVED?
You will be responsible for the management of the Estimating team and all operational tender preparations, valuations, post completion procedures and reviews.

With a proven track record of preparing quality submissions, you will have responsibility for the preparation and submission of all estimates for highway, street lighting and countryside works for both internal and external clients.

Using good communication skills, you will lead the completion of final valuations and monthly work in progress meetings.

Working collaboratively, you will prepare documentation for obtaining material and sub-contractor enquiries for pricing purposes.

With an excellent awareness of the macro environment and new construction materials, methods and procedures you will provide advice to operational managers, improving service delivery and value for money.

WHAT WILL YOU NEED?
You will need to be educated to degree level or equivalent in an appropriate discipline, or able to demonstrate the essential criteria as detailed in the person specification. You will also need:
• Experience of working in a construction environment
• Estimating experience within a contracting environment
• Knowledge of and experience in preparing the pricing of tenders and quality
submissions
• Good communication and problem-solving skills
