This is an exciting opportunity to join our Highway Network Management Section as a Street Authority Permit Inspector.

As a Street Authority Permit Inspector you will be responsible for undertaking inspections of street and road works and ensuring they are in compliance with our Road & Street Works Permit Scheme and all other relevant legislation and codes of practice.

If you have experience of working in a traffic, highways, road and street works or enforcement environment and can demonstrate drive, ambition and commercial awareness then we would like to hear from you.

Responsible for undertaking inspections and identifying highway reinstatement defects and inadequacies in signing, lighting and guarding.

Responsible for inspections in accordance with:

• The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991
• Traffic Management Act 2004
• The County Council of Durham Road and Street Works Permit Scheme 2020
• Code of Practice for Inspections 2002
• Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in the Highway 2020

WHAT WILL YOU NEED?
• NVQ Level 3 in a Civil Engineering discipline or relevant experience in a traffic, highway
or road and street works or enforcement environment.

• Willing to train towards and achieve relevant technical qualifications in Streetworks as
agreed by the Highway Network Management Section Manager.

Durham County Council currently operates a hybrid working policy where a model of 2 days in the workplace and 3 days at home/remote will apply. This model is pro-rated for part time roles and arrangements are at managers discretion, alternatively you can work all of your contracted hours within the workplace if you prefer.
