We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the public health team in North Tyneside Council as a Public Health Apprentice, where you will be able to develop your knowledge and skills through on-the-job training and taught learning to become a Public Health Practitioner.
Public health practitioners (PHPs) work as part of a national workforce that strives to help people and communities to maximise their potential for a healthy, fulfilled, and productive life, to live healthier for longer.

North Tyneside’s public health department covers varied and exciting work areas including activities and services to improve health and wellbeing and prevent ill health, services for families with children and young people, work to protect the public protection in relation to licensing, trading standards and environmental health, work to promote community safety and prepare for and respond to emergencies.

The successful candidate will be supporting the work of the department and the content of the role will develop throughout the 3-year apprenticeship as knowledge and skills are acquired.

Examples of the activities the post holder will undertake in the first year include:
• Supporting a variety of public health programmes covering a range of topics such as alcohol, tobacco, obesity, immunisation, mental health with a specific focus on reducing health inequalities.

• Supporting engagement events across the borough in both the work place and community setting in order to promote health and wellbeing.

• Supporting key national, regional, and local public health campaigns working with a range of local organisations and groups ensuring consistent communication and providing a variety of resources.

A minimum of 112 UCAS points or equivalent (obtained or predicted)

AND GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths subject at Grade C / 4 or above

This post is full time and fixed term for three years.

You will be given appropriate paid time off work, to attend the University of Sunderland and work towards completion of the Public Health Practitioner (integrated degree) apprenticeship qualification.

As this is an apprenticeship opportunity, your course fees will be fully funded and so you will accrue no University fees or student debt and will also be earning throughout the duration of the apprenticeship.
