Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums (TWAM) is seeking to appoint an Area Manager to join the team at Culture Bridge North East (CBNE). You will help CBNE engage directly with its key stakeholders (cultural and education sector organisations) in specific geographic areas of the North East and act as client for specific sub-contracted programmes.

CBNE, managed by TWAM, is funded by Arts Council England to be a bridge between the education and culture sectors, working to ensure that every young person growing up in our region has a childhood rich with excellent arts and culture.

CBNE is a strategic capacity development programme. Our approach is driven by building and managing relationships, and our Area Managers are critical to this. You will be the named contact for organisations in a specific part of the region (to be agreed during recruitment process), providing advice, constructive challenge, and introductions to other organisations as appropriate. You will lead the development of Local Cultural Education Partnerships in your area, supporting partners to work together to address key strategic challenges for cultural education in that geography.

In addition, you will act as client for a small portfolio of sub-contracted programmes. CBNE works through delivery partners including Newcastle University, The Forge and the Customs House as well as freelancers, and these relationships are held by the Programme Manager and Area Managers.

You’ll need to be passionate about the power of arts and culture to change children’s lives for the better, and understand how collaboration and partnership working can impact on this. We want to broaden the experience in our team so we’re looking for direct professional experience in the education sector, or in music, visual arts, theatre, dance, literature, libraries, film or heritage. You’ll enjoy working in a busy small team but be able to take care of yourself while working remotely for a good proportion of the week.

For more information on CBNE please visit www.culturebridgenortheast.org.uk and for an informal discussion about this opportunity contact Mel Burgess, CBNE Programme Manager, on 0191 2772318.
