Wylam First School is a vibrant, outstanding school set in the beautiful Tyne Valley. We are looking for a Caretaker who will ensure high standards of cleanliness, repairs and maintenance across our school site.

You will be responsible for the security of the premises (key holding, setting alarms and call out), general maintenance work and repairs, health and safety issues relating to the building, cleaning and porterage duties, and general caretaking duties. It is essential that you are capable of regular stooping, bending, lifting and carrying of equipment, materials and furniture, and are able to climb ladders.

There will need to be a degree of flexibility around certain key events in the school calendar, eg parents evenings, governing body meetings, Christmas fairs etc. You will be expected to be available to undertake lettings for the school when required.

To work in our busy and happy school, you must be positive, hard-working, able to forge positive relationships and have a strong commitment to high standards of service delivery and customer care.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.

Closing date: 12 noon on Friday 31st March 2017.
