An opportunity has arisen for a Communications Executive to work within the Marketing & Communications team at Visit County Durham.
Visit County Durham works with tourism businesses and partners, both locally and nationally, to grow the county’s visitor economy. We also coordinate the promotion of the county nationally as a great place to live, work, visit, study and invest. We perform the roles of destination management, destination marketing and place marketing.
The Communications Executive will be responsible for the coordination and delivery of VCD’s internal and external communication activity. This covers media relations, press launches/trips story generation, briefings and copywriting in order to communicate the county’s offer to a wide range of regional, national and international audiences. The role covers corporate, destination and place communications and activity. This will be done by:-
• Developing and implementing creative communications and engagement plans for campaigns and projects
• Gathering stories, identifying media opportunities to support the destination and partners
• Building relationships with journalists at regional and national level to help build Durham’s profile
• Initiating and delivering media trips and providing an effective service for media enquiries.
Candidates should be educated to degree level, have significant experience in a communications role either agency or client side, have a proven track record of generating positive media coverage at multiple levels and have experience of planning/implementing press and PR activity including photocalls, press launches and press trips.
Applicants should have good planning skills, be a quick thinker, flexible, have excellent media relations skills and understand the needs of journalists.
