Communications (Marketing) Officer – Band 7

Northumberland Council Council is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated marketing communications professional for a key role in its award-winning Communications team working with the Communities and Culture directorates (including Libraries, Archives and Tourism).

The successful candidate will have first class writing skills, be creative, and have a significant understanding of marketing communications and engagement principles, stakeholder management and delivering effective, measurable campaigns.

The team is primarily based in our main office at Morpeth County Hall

Key Responsibilities:

· Producing press materials

· Content generation for features and news

· Manage marketing plans across different channels

· Monitor effectiveness and provide recommendations

· Generate ideas and implement new marketing initiatives

About you:

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to liaise with a variety of stakeholders, both internally and externally

· The ability to write, edit and proof copy, work to tight deadlines

· Be familiar with digital marketing including social media, using website content management systems and e-communications

· Sell in stories to target media

· Strong organisation skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

· Good time management skills, with natural ability to prioritise and manage workload


What does the day to day look like? The council is a large organisation and because of this you can be working on a number of very different projects at the same time. From campaigns linked to resident wellbeing, relationship development with stakeholders, councillor briefings, branding community hubs, building websites, interviewing, and filming staff and residents for social channels, arts projects for libraries, through to handling media and writing marketing plans, the day to day is never dull! What is the best part of the job? The people. We’ve got a great in-house Communications team, supporting the work of staff across the organisation and engaging with residents and local communities.
