Cramlington Town Council Community Co-ordinator Part-Time

  • Employer: Cramlington Town Council
  • Salary Salary: scale point 16-20 £31,525 - £33,673. (pro-rata)
  • Hours: 21 hours per week (3 days), flexible working considered
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Location: Cramlington

About the role

Cramlington Town Council has launched Connected Communities, a new initiative to link the town's five volunteer-run community centres into one supportive network. The centres share ideas, resources, volunteers and opportunities, while each keeps its own identity and keeps serving its local community. We are looking for a Community Co-ordinator to help make this happen.

This is a varied, hands-on role. You will support the management committees and trustee boards that run the centres, helping with governance, insurance, health and safety and funding. This frees up dedicated volunteers to focus on the community activities they joined to do, and helps protect each centre for the long term.

The network aims to help the centres become welcoming places where people can meet others, feel less lonely, improve their health and wellbeing, learn new skills, find work or training, get advice and support close to home, and take part in creative, social and physical activities.

Key Responsibilities

Community Centre Network Co-ordination

• Act as the main point of contact across the community centres, building strong working relationships with volunteer committees and trustee boards

• Support joint working between sites, including sharing ideas, resources, equipment, volunteers and skills, while each centre keeps its own identity

• Organise and support joint events that bring residents from different neighbourhoods together

• Attend and minute network meetings and support shared decision-making

• Support committees and trustee boards with governance, management arrangements, insurance and health and safety, including centres going through community asset transfer

Volunteer Support

• Provide practical support to volunteers and management committees, reducing their administrative workload

• Assist with volunteer recruitment, induction and recognition

• Help improve volunteer retention, signposting to training and development opportunities

Funding and Financial Administration

• Assist with identifying and preparing funding applications

• Support financial monitoring and reporting

• Maintain accurate records of activities and outcomes

• Help develop and track income from hall bookings, social enterprise and service contracts

Community and Creative Health Programme

• Facilitate opportunities for community activities and wellbeing sessions across the centres, helping to reduce loneliness and improve health and wellbeing

• Work with the NHS, social care and voluntary partners to co-ordinate outreach and social prescribing

• Work with partners such as health trainers, job centre coaches, education providers and school holiday provision, so that advice, training and job support are available in centres

• Support outreach to people who are isolated, live in areas of highest need or face the greatest barriers to taking part

Partnership Development

• Build and maintain relationships with statutory, voluntary and community partners

• Represent the network at external meetings and events

• Support the development of service contracts and shared delivery arrangements

Monitoring and Evaluation

• Collect and record participation and outcomes data in line with Regeneration and other funding requirements

• Contribute to Community and Youth Committee reports

• Support the development of case studies and community stories showing the impact of Connected Communities

Bookings

• Manage bookings for the Cramlington Town Council (CTC) Community Space room

• Manage other bookings, such as litter picking equipment

• Keep booking records accurate and up to date

• Excellent organisational and administrative skills with strong attention to detail

• Confident communicator who can build good working relationships with a wide range of people

• Experience of co-ordinating activities or projects across multiple sites or teams

• Ability to explain governance, insurance and health and safety requirements clearly to volunteers

• Ability to work independently and use initiative, as well as work well as part of a wider team

• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office or equivalent (email, spreadsheets, word processing)

• Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion

• Willingness to travel between community centres across Cramlington (a driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable)
