Why did you become a social worker?

• To work directly with people?
• Empower people to improve their lives?
• Make a difference to local communities?
• A belief that focusing on the strengths and assets of a person or community, rather than their deficits, will always produce better outcomes?
• A commitment to quality of opportunity, regardless of background and diversity?

If the answer is YES to any of these, North Tyneside Council wants to hear from you as we’re recruiting to new adult social work posts.

We’ve recently reviewed our whole approach to supporting adults, and families in North Tyneside. We’ve introduced a new, dynamic model of support, built around our 4 small localities. This will enable you to build meaningful relationships with local GPs and providers, as well as shaping the future of the services we commission. There is also Gateway Duty at the front door responding to new customers who may be in crisis and who may require advice and information, assessment under the Care Act or a response because of Adult Safeguarding issues.

We’re using a strengths based approach to helping people transform their lives, which will focus on the community they are part of and that empowers them to take as much control of their lives as possible.

Within the Community Wellbeing Team you will have a static case load to enable you to get to know the people you work with over the life time of their personal budget and will be supported by an experienced lead practitioner. Within Gateway Duty you will have a case load working with people short term to help them take control of their life. You will work closely with Community Wellbeing Officers, Welfare Assistance, health and other professionals. Gateway is also part of an exciting Adult and Children’s Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub.

We’re launching a state of the art case recording system with full agile working. You’ll have brand new IT kit to enable you to work from any community location and from home. As part of this we’re streamlining all administrative processes, maximising the time you spend with people, not paperwork.

We have a well established programme of CPD support and you’ll be given free access to range of online and face to face resources to help you evidence and develop your skills and practice; this is underpinned by a strong ethos of succession planning to support practitioners with career progression.

North Tyneside Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

In addition, staff and volunteers are expected to familiarise themselves with all relevant policies, procedures and guidance in relation to safeguarding children and safe practice with vulnerable adults. Within North Tyneside, safeguarding is everybody’s business.
