Further Information
We have an exciting vision for transforming how we use our data assets across the organisation.

The vision is being made a reality through a significant investment in an enterprise-wide data infrastructure built on the Microsoft Azure platform.

We are also reviewing our organisational structures, bringing people from across the organisation together into a single team, that will deliver a centre of excellence for data science across the Council and in partnership with others.

Essential to our new approach is investing in the dedicated skills and capacity to structure our corporate data assets. We are building a new team of data engineers with the capability to do this.

As a Data Engineer you will play a key role in managing data pipelines, data integration and data transformation processes to ensure the availability, reliability, and accessibility of data for various stakeholders.

This is an exciting time to join us as we invest in our data function and revolutionise the way we use data across the Council.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?
You will design, build, and optimise data pipelines to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into data storage systems such as data warehouses, data lakes, or databases.

You will integrate data from diverse sources like databases, APIs, log files, and third-party systems into a unified and coherent data ecosystem.

You will develop and implement data transformation processes, including data cleansing, data enrichment, and data aggregation, to make the data ready for analytical and reporting purposes.

As part of our ongoing accommodation strategy, these posts will be moving to one of our modern and fit for purpose offices in the vicinity of Durham City.  You will have the ability to work from home and from an office location as part of our hybrid working policy.

We encourage you to contact Steve Evans (Head of Corporate Affairs) via email steve.evans@durham.gov.uk to find out more about the role.

WHAT WILL I NEED?
You will need previous experience as a Data Engineer or Software Engineer, or similar role.

You will have strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java or SQL, together with knowledge of data modelling concepts and database design principles.

You will hold a high level of technical skill with an analytical and methodical approach to problem solving.
