The Register Office is looking to expand its pool of Casual Deputy Registrars for ceremonies only and the successful candidates duties will be to register and perform primarily marriage ceremonies but also as required, Civil Partnership and non-statutory ceremonies including Naming Ceremonies and also Renewal of Vows Ceremonies either at the Register Office or at our approved venues.

This post does not include any duties regarding the Registration of Births, Deaths or Historic Certificate Production.

Previous experience is not essential as full training will be given. However experience in a frontline customer environment is essential together with the ability to speak confidently in public and hand write neat, legible and accurate records. The ability to understand and apply rules and procedures is also essential.

As part of the interview process candidates will be required to do a short public speaking exercise and also complete a handwriting exercise.

The posts are casual in nature and you will join a pool of casual registrars whose hours are allocated on an as and when required basis.

Casual Registrars hours are set on a three monthly advance rota although you are also required to be flexible depending upon the changing demand for bookings.

You must be available Monday to Sunday including Bank Holidays and may be required at short notice and for varying periods of time, therefore a flexible approach to your availability is essential. For this reason it will not be possible to combine another job with this post.

Under the Births, Deaths and Marriages Regulations 1968 the following are disqualified from being a registrar: Non Discharged Bankrupt, Authorised Person, Secretary of Synagogues or Registering Officer for Society of Friends, Minister or Religion, Medical Practitioner, Midwife, Undertaker or persons involved in burial or cremation business and anyone engaged in the business of life insurance.
