Further Information
Northumberland County Council is undergoing an exciting period of change and requires a new Director of Public Health. Working strategically as part of the Councils Corporate Leadership team the successful post holder will be responsible for leading the county’s drive to improve health outcomes for our residents.

We are already doing well in many areas, but significant challenges remain. For example, life expectancy in some of the region is behind the national average, and those in the most affluent areas live on average seven years longer than those in the most deprived areas. Too many of our children are classed as
overweight or obese, and our teenage conception rates and smoking prevalence are higher than the national average. Therefore this role is crucial.

We need a DPH who can work across the council and with partners, joining up services and ensuring that we are focused, efficient and targeted in our approach. We want public health to be a major consideration in all of our corporate decision making – and we need you to be a powerful advocate for this agenda, with a deep understanding of how to make a tangible difference to the lives of our residents and deliver long term systemic public health improvements in Northumberland.

You will have excellent communication and influencing skills. Additionally, you will have a strong customer focus and a genuine interest and commitment to leading and improving public services in Northumberland.

Candidates must have a relevant professional qualification.
