Further Information
Ready to turn evidence, insight and policy into action in the North East?
We're looking for an ambitious and highly organised Executive Policy Officer to join the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority at a pivotal time for the region. This is a unique opportunity to work at the centre of the organisation, supporting the development of cross-cutting policy, strategy and advice that helps deliver the Mayor's priorities and improve outcomes for communities, businesses and residents across the North East.
As a key member of the growing Policy, Planning & Performance Team, you'll provide high-quality policy, analytical and coordination support to the Principal Strategy and Policy Lead and the wider team. You'll help translate strategic priorities into clear analysis, insight and deliverable actions, ensuring the Authority is equipped with robust evidence, well-crafted advice and effective cross-organisational coordination.
This is an opportunity to:
- Support policy and strategy work across the full breadth of the Authority's responsibilities, including economic growth, transport, skills, housing, net zero and public service reform.
- Undertake evidence gathering, data analysis, policy research and horizon scanning to inform high-profile policy and strategic work.
- Prepare clear briefings, reports, discussion papers and presentations for senior officers, the Mayor and Cabinet.
- Help strengthen corporate planning, performance reporting and strategic insight by collating evidence, analysing trends and drafting narrative insight.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of policy frameworks and corporate strategies.
- Build strong relationships with policy and delivery teams across the organisation to ensure shared understanding of organisational objectives and policy development; and consistent messaging with external partners.
We're looking for someone who combines strong analytical skills with excellent written communication and practical delivery experience. You'll be confident working with complex information, able to explain policy issues clearly, and comfortable managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. You'll build effective relationships across the organisation and with partners, bringing curiosity, initiative and a commitment to high-quality public service.
Whether you're currently working in policy, strategy, research, public administration, local or central government, or a related field, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to visible and influential work within a dynamic organisation that is helping to shape the North East's future.
We are proud to be an inclusive employer, and we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, communities and experiences. We support flexible working and encourage applications from candidates who are under-represented including women, disabled people, LGBTQ+ people and those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds.
If you want to help turn evidence into advice, strategy into delivery and ambition into impact, we'd love to hear from you.
If you would like to find out more, we will be holding a candidate information session 10:00-10:45 on Wednesday 9th September, where you can meet the team, hear about the other roles that we are recruiting to and ask any questions you might have. You can join the session anonymously here.
