Further Information
We have a new opportunity as a Field Assistant for a period of 4 months to join the team at the North Pennines National Landscape.

The "Adders Up” project is a three-year programme from the North Pennines National Landscape team (hosted by Durham County Council) of public engagement to locate and raise awareness of adders, and land management activity to conserve and restore populations of adders in the North Pennines.

In the first year we are partnering with Newcastle University to learn more about adder distribution, genetics, and movement across our landscape. We are recruiting two posts – A Researcher and a Field Research Assistant. The research design and implementation will be under the direction of Newcastle University staff.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?
As the Field Assistant you will work supporting the Researcher in the field survey of adders and with recording habitat variables on site using established survey and sampling techniques.

You will help with data collection and recording in the field, entering data onto excel and GIS software, and with collating and storing field photographs.

You will assist the Researcher with planning all survey work including seeking landowner permissions, completing health and safety checklists, and preparation and maintenance of equipment.

You will also have some opportunity to support the Adders Up project officers and other members of the North Pennines National Landscape team on their conservation, education, and engagement work.

It is anticipated it will be a busy season, mainly working in the field in potentially remote locations, which may require early starts and accessed by walking over difficult terrain.

You will also be enabled and encouraged to develop your own knowledge and gain a wide range of skills in conservation and the management of protected landscapes.

You should have your own means of transport as this post requires frequent travel around the North Pennines National Landscape.

We encourage you to contact Adam Millington, Biodiversity Lead via email at adam@northpennines.org.uk to arrange an informal discussion about the role.
