Further Information
Cleveland Fire Brigade are seeking to recruit people to ensure the delivery of our services to keep our communities safe in the event of industrial action by Firefighters. This is to ensure that the Fire & Rescue Authority meets its legal obligations under the Fire & Rescue Services Act 2004 and Civil Contingencies Act 2004.

This role will be to drive an emergency fire appliance to the scenes of an operational incident and to supply and maintain the fire crew with water from the on board water tank (or other water supply). Additionally the Driver/Pump Operator will be required to pump water for various other incident types.

This role requires a current and clean Class C manual driving licence plus you must be able to supply evidence of recent experience of 200 miles LGV driving. Preference however will be given to those that hold a Class C plus E driving licence and hold Driver Certificate of Professional Competence. This role also has a number of physical requirements (climb ladders, deploy fire hoses lines, deal with casualties) and therefore a good level of physical fitness will be required.

If you are unavailable for the whole October which is the most likely timescale for industrial action, then this opportunity probably isn’t for you.

Those individuals who successfully pass our assessment process and training requirements will be given a zero hours agreement. There will be no obligation for the Brigade to provide any individual with any work and the individual will only be required to work when requested by the Brigade. The Brigade will require you to work at any of its locations across Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton, Redcar & Cleveland. You may be required to work at any time of the day, morning or night. Pay will be £10 per hour during any period of training and £150 for each 12 hour operational shift worked or £12.50 per hour with a minimum payment of 3 hours.

Considering the demanding nature of firefighting work you must be medically and physically fit and a fitness test and medical will be an integral part of our selection process.

All individuals must be flexible with their availability to undertake training appropriate to their role.

You must be 18 or over and eligible to work in the UK, but you will in any event have to be 21 years old to hold an LGV licence. All recruitment is subject to successful medical screening, fitness assessments and substance misuse testing.

To apply please complete and return the attached application form, medical declaration and driver data protection mandate.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis so therefore should be submitted immediately once completed. Please be advised that the application process will close as soon as we have received sufficient applications and Cleveland Fire Brigade reserve the right not to progress any applicant.
