We are now looking for a high calibre health and safety professional to lead the team and the development of the service.

Reporting to the Assistant Director - Corporate Services, and working closely with Elected Members, Trade Unions, Chief Officers and staff, it is a high profile position which carries a great deal of leadership responsibility. You will act as the Competent Person for the council on health and safety matters, manage the employee wellbeing support services contracts (such as occupational health, physiotherapy and counselling) and ensure the council complies with statutory obligations as regards health and safety. You will provide appropriate and necessary policies, procedures and systems to ensure that risk is identified, managed and improved upon. You will be a change maker in respect of organisational responses to health and safety and management of risk and will support the council, schools and external clients to deliver good practice in respect of health and safety.

You will hold a relevant degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent) and will have chartered membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (or equivalent).
