Further Information
The North of Tyne Combined Authority is seeking two dynamic and values-driven people to join its inclusive economy team.

The North of Tyne Combined Authority (NTCA) is a partnership of three local authorities: Newcastle, North Tyneside, and Northumberland and a directly-elected Metro Mayor. Our inclusive economy team works to make sure opportunities for green, sustainable growth reach everyone in our communities. Leading on skills, employability and inclusion projects, we develop policies and programmes which address poverty and disadvantage and help to reduce inequality.

We are looking for people with the drive to make a difference, an ability to think creatively, and a commitment to collaborative and inclusive ways of working.

In return we can offer you:
• A unique experience in an exciting policy field bridging traditional economics and social policy disciplines
• A first-class start to your professional career – with tailored support and the opportunity to join specialist programmes for people early in their careers
• The chance to work in a values-driven environment to make a real difference to people and places in the North of Tyne.

NTCA is committed to embracing diversity and equal opportunity in a serious way: you will be too, helping to build a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills.

We have two vacancies within our Inclusive Economy Team:

1. Inclusive Economy Academic Placement (12 months fixed term)
This one-year fixed term appointment is designed specifically for an undergraduate based in the region and looking for a professional placement as part of their academic course.
To apply for this role you will need to be:
• Studying an appropriate undergraduate course in an arts or humanities subject relevant to local government and devolution (e.g. economics, politics, social sciences).
• Undertaking a course which includes a designated year in industry.
• Be available to begin the placement at the start of the academic year 2021-22 (September or October 2021).
As part of the placement NTCA will support the successful candidate in all performance and monitoring requirements from their academic institution.

2. Inclusive Economy Assistant (permanent appointment)
This role is suitable for a recent university graduate, or person with equivalent experience, interested in starting their career in policy, research and analysis. This new role will sit within NTCA’s Inclusive Economy team, reporting to the Inclusive Economy Adviser. The role will offer an opportunity to learn about all aspects of the inclusive economy thinking and practice, whilst getting an excellent grounding in project management, policy support and stakeholder engagement.

You will support the Inclusive Economy Adviser and wider team working on specific projects in relation to poverty, inequality and inclusion. Academic or equivalent experience backed up by a keen interest in devolution and/or social policy is welcome, as is relevant volunteering.
