Further Information
EXTERNAL ADVERT - You will NOT be employed by the North of Tyne Combined Authority.

Set up as a company in 2003 to support educational and research activities around climate change, Energy Democracy Project (EDP) has focused on building support for energy democracy and a just transition in the UK since 2014. EDP focuses on engaging and consulting trade unions and unionised/non-unionised workers in building visions and pathways for a just and rapid climate transition. The other three members of staff at EDP have worked in partnership with organisations like Platform London, the Trades Union Congress, Divest Parliament, Fuel Poverty Action, Transition Economics and in other trade union and climate policy and organising roles.

Fixed term for 16 months, subject to a 3-month review.
You will lead on consulting high-carbon workers and employers within the North of Tyne Combined Authority (NTCA) area who are at risk of losing their jobs due to the climate transition, so as to ensure that an inclusive and just transition is realised. You will assist the Project Lead and Researcher on designing these consultations to identify the barriers preventing high-carbon workers and employers from transitioning into low-carbon jobs or becoming low-carbon employers. The aim of workforce consultation overall is to coproduce a package of solutions and policy proposals for an inclusive and just transition for those potentially at risk of redundancy, or those who have missed out on employment opportunities in the past in the NTCA area, for implementation by the NTCA where possible.

Regular evening and also occasional weekend work may be required. Start date is ideally by 28 February 2022 but open to negotiation.

You will be required to be able to work flexibly between your home and the NTCA Offices at The Lumen, St. James Boulevard, Newcastle upon Tyne NE4 5BZ (Covid restrictions permitting). Regular travel around the NTCA area will be necessary.

We are aiming to conduct interviews in the week starting 7 of February.
