KS2 LEAD - YEAR 5/6 MATHS AND CURRICULUM TEACHER
(VALLEY VIEW PRIMARY SCHOOL)
MPS/UPS + TLR 2a

Required for September 2017

This post is open to both Key Stages 2 and 3 as we would encourage KS3 colleagues to apply too.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and mathematically skilled teacher to join our KS2 team. This post is suitable for teachers with experience of teaching maths in key stage two or maths specialist colleagues who may want to transition from KS3 into KS2 (training to support curriculum teaching will be provided).

Due to the pending retirement of our current year 5/6 maths teacher in 2018, we are looking to appoint a KS2 leader, with significant maths experience, to teach maths to years 5 and 6 and curriculum subjects to year 6.

As an outstanding school, we pride ourselves on providing the best possible standards of education and care for our pupils.

Our core values of respect, responsibility, resilience and engagement permeate school life and ensure we have a culture of high expectations and support for pupils, their families and our staff team.

The governing board and senior leadership team are committed to ensuring, not only our pupils, but also our staff team are able to reach their full potential. We invest in and support career development and grow and develop staff at all levels. This has been further enhanced this year through our soft federation with Hedworthfield Primary School.

As this role is a key role in school, we are making the appointment one year earlier than required to ensure we can recruit a candidate with the highest mathematical skill and can ensure they are fully supported in role.

In this post you will be responsible for communication, line management and school improvement delivery within KS2. You will plan, deliver and assess pupils learning in maths for years five and six alongside a year group partner who will deliver the literacy curriculum. You will also plan and teach the curriculum subjects following a creative curriculum approach (training will be provided).

The core purpose of this role is to ensure children have a high quality education which fully prepares them for the challenges faced at the end of KS2 and their transition into the next phase of their education.

We are looking for a candidate who:
Has outstanding subject knowledge and skill in maths
Is an experienced and effective teacher
Has proven leadership skill or potential
Is passionate and enthusiastic about education
Understands the importance and value of being part of a team
Understands the value of effective parental partnership
Values and respects children
Will work hard for the best outcomes for our children

What we can offer:
Outstanding and engaging pupils
A supportive and engaged school community with excellent parental engagement
Outstanding standards of behaviour and exemplary attitudes
An inclusive environment
A passionate and caring place of work
A commitment to professional development
An excellent staff team who are supportive, motivated and responsible

Valley View Primary School is currently under consultation to form a permanent hard federation with our partner school, Hedworthfield Primary school. This is an exciting time for school and the potential federation provides great opportunities for future career development and collaboration.

Shortlisting will take place on 25th April 2017

First stage interviews will include a lesson observation and a task on 2nd and 3rd May.
Final stage interview and presentation will take place on Thursday 4th May 2017.

Visits to school are strongly recommended and can be arranged by contacting Jane Crawford- School Business Manager on 0191 4249977 (option 1 for Valley View Primary school) or jcrawford@valleyview.s-tyneside.sch.uk

South Tyneside Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure will be sought along with other relevant pre-employment checks and completion of a disqualification by association declaration form (Childcare Disqualifications Regulations 2009).
