Gateshead Council's Economic Development Service is responsible for leading the Council's efforts to create a strong, sustainable and inclusive economy. It works across the policy areas that drive growth - the business environment, labour market, and physical infrastructure - with the aim of boosting prosperity and reducing economic inequality.

The Service works with a wide range of partners and stakeholders to generate and secure opportunities for the benefit of local residents to access employment, support new business starts and enhance business growth in the borough; this can often entail delivering grant funded and/ or commercially driven contracts.

An opportunity has now arisen for a focused, results driven individual to join the Service as an Enterprise Operations Supervisor.

The role is based within the Enterprise Services Team and will support the Team Manager to successfully deliver a range of performance driven projects including
Department for Work & Pensions Work (DWP) New Enterprise Allowance (NEA)
Programme, managing its performance and quality of up to 14 sub- contractors across the North East region.

Stimulating and raising enterprise activities aligned to arrange performance driven contracts.

The opportunity has arisen due to the current post holder going on maternity leave (and cover for this period is required, which may last up to a 1 year).

The role will involve applying initiative, having a solution focused approach and a commitment to ensuring contractual targets and obligations are met. Performance is monitored daily and change is a constant feature of delivery.

Knowledge of local and national enterprise, the Merlin Standard, business and start up support will be required in this post as will interventions and activities to help unemployed people start up a business.

The post holder will have or an equivalent qualification or be prepared to work towards NVQ level 4 in Information Advice & Guidance. Experience of supervising staff; working to targets and outcomes in an enterprise contract; developing, implementing and performance managing operations across a range of service providers; partnership working; working collaboratively and writing, presenting reports and complex information to a variety of audiences.

Flexibility and excellent communication skills will be needed on a daily basis in order to motivate and drive staff and deal with a range of stakeholders including JobCentre Plus, DWP, and 14 supply chain partners.
