We are looking for an experienced Organisational Development Specialist to play a key role in ensuring colleagues have structured professional development, are supported throughout their development journey, whilst also nurturing talent within regional public sector procurement.
This is a brand new role where you’ll be able to apply your experience and knowledge to make a valuable impact on our culture and help to make NEPO a great place to work.
It’s an exciting time to join NEPO as we have recently launched our Procurement Apprenticeship Programme which aims to develop and nurture talented individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds to become the public sector procurement professionals of the future. Apprentices will be placed both in NEPO and across the twelve North East local authorities, with our first cohort starting in September 2024. As Organisational Development Specialist, you will have a hands-on role working with the apprentices, their employers/managers and training providers, to ensure that the programme creates the best outcomes for all.
Working on a hybrid basis from NEPO’s HQ at the Northern Design Centre in Gateshead, your role will entail:

- Creating, co-creating and curating content with subject matter experts to meet learning needs.
- Liaising with local authorities across the North East and Tees Valley to promote the Procurement Apprenticeship Programme and provide practical support and guidance to employers on topics such as funding, apprentice recruitment, line management and retention.
- Working across the region to meet regularly with procurement apprentices, building positive relationships and acting as a trusted contact to support and coach participants, so that they achieve the desired knowledge, skills and behaviours.
- Developing and maintaining a community of apprentices, fostering strong links across the region and building a network of peer support for programme participants.
- Continuously shaping and improving the Procurement Apprenticeship Programme in line with stakeholder insight and with a strong awareness of sector needs and ambitions.
- Participating in public-facing activity, such as engagement events, media engagement and speaking opportunities, to promote both the Procurement Apprenticeship Programme and procurement as a career of choice.
- Leading on the design and implementation of all core mandatory training courses for all employees, ensuring they are current and available as a remote design where possible.
- Building strong relationships with line managers, providing guidance and support relating to professional development.
- Ensuring that professional development strategies reflect learning theories so that different approaches are utilised in the ongoing development of colleagues.
- Utilising facilitation, coaching and mentoring models effectively.
- Implementing employee feedback mechanisms, ensuring insight is reflected in organisational development activity.
- Creating systems and processes to monitor the effectiveness of training and to record all training activities.
- Establishing strong links with training providers, suppliers and partner organisations to drive excellence and maximise the learning experience for colleagues.
- Monitoring the performance of training providers, suppliers and partner organisations, proactively addressing issues at the earliest opportunity.
- Building equality, diversity and inclusion into all aspects of organisational development.
- Ensuring that organisational development strategies contribute to a positive organisational culture.
- Maintaining a strong awareness of the external landscape and the trends that impact NEPO and its employees.
- Representing the region and NEPO on relevant working groups and committees to exact influence over future developments.
- Demonstrating professionalism and consistency in what you say and do in order to build trust.
