Food Partnership Coordinator (Voluntary and Community Sector)

Fixed term to March 2025

If you’re passionate about tackling poverty and inequality, specifically relating to food insecurity and sustainability. If you’re a problem solver who can operate strategically, work autonomously using initiative and personal drive to power change, then please read on.

We remain true to our ambition to tackle poverty and inequality so our communities can thrive, but we recognise that’s not easy right now. Our communities are facing unparalleled challenges as they face the very real challenge of a cost of living crisis. Food costs have soared, and the availability of emergency food has become another significant challenge, as has saving good food from going to landfill.

Gateshead already has in place a community food network and we’ve already started a programme of activity to help tackle these challenges. Gateshead seeks to become a sustainable food place and as part of this work we have an exciting opportunity for a Sustainable Food Coordinator to join our brilliant team.

If you’d like to know more, please take a look at the full job profile. It’s important that you read it in full and check that you meet the essential criteria.

About the role….

Working with communities and partners from all sectors you will coordinate and lead community working to create a Sustainable Food Partnership for Gateshead, working towards becoming a Sustainable Food Place. Whilst championing the Council’s priorities; Thrive; Health and Wellbeing; and the Climate Emergency, coordinate activities at a community level which bring together partners actions to address food poverty, food waste, food scarcity and climate change.

You will provide support and encouragement for partners and communities to map and develop community food assets, encouraging the recognition and use of individual skills, assets and other community resources, enabling connections between all cultures and backgrounds.

You will manage this theme of work on behalf of the Council and will also have responsibility for budget and monitoring returns to ensure the project is fully compliant.

What’s in it for you? Well, there’s so much on offer and here’s just a few of the highlights!

You’ll be paid a competitive salary plus additional allowances where relevant.
We’ll help you save for your future with an outstanding employer contribution to your pension of approximately 18.9% per year.
You’ll get a generous annual leave package of 27 days annual leave for new employees, rising to 31 days after 5 years continuous local government service.
You’ll have the opportunity to participate in the Council’s Flexi time scheme, subject to management approval and business needs.
You have the chance to buy up to 10 additional holidays per year.
You’ll have access to great health and wellbeing support, including discounted membership to GO Gateshead Leisure Services and ability to use our cycle to work scheme.
