Gateshead Public Health Team

This is an exciting opportunity to join Gateshead’s Public Health team, which is being expanded as the Council takes forward its Thrive strategy, with health and wellbeing at its heart, and builds its recovery from the impact of COVID-19. We are seeking to appoint a full time, permanent Public Health Programme Lead.

You will join a team of motivated staff in carrying out innovative Public Health work to narrow gaps in health inequality, reduce inequity and to drive forward the Council's commitment to enabling all residents to thrive.

You will work on a range of public health programmes as required as part of the overall Public Health team, including work on emotional health and wellbeing, mental health, self-harm, and suicide prevention. You will be responsible for action and policy related to tackling inequality and social determinants of health, supporting the Consultants and senior team in implementing changes to the Council’s services and influencing outside partners.

You will be an effective practitioner with a track record of strategic planning and delivery of Public Health programmes and approaches. It is essential that you have a relevant Health or Social Care qualification at post-graduate level or significant experience, and good knowledge of health care, public health and social care policy and intelligence. You should have experience of achieving change across organisational boundaries, working with the community and good project management skills.

During the selection process candidates will be assessed against the essential knowledge, experience and qualifications as set out in the job profile.

Flexible working and requests for working remotely will be considered in line with the Council’s Hybrid Working Offer.

For an informal discussion please contact Louise Sweeney, Consultant in Public Health on 0191 433 2909.
