Further Information

Are you passionate about designing innovative solutions that tackle deep-rooted social challenges? Do you want to help shape a region where every child can thrive, and every home is warm, green, and affordable?

We’re looking for a dynamic Innovation Data Lead to drive forward bold, inclusive change across the North East. This is a unique opportunity to lead strategic data initiatives that support the North East Combined Authority’s child poverty reduction and domestic retrofitting work.

Our bold and ambitious five-year Child Poverty Action Plan sets a vision for every baby, child, and young person in the region to thrive and achieve their potential, regardless of their background or postcode. Developed in partnership with communities and cross-sector organisations, the plan focuses on three strategic priorities: supporting families in the here and now, breaking down barriers to opportunity, and tackling long-term structural challenges.

The Mayor has made tackling poor-quality housing one of her key priorities, giving the North East CA a mandate to lead the way in innovating to find new solutions to make the region’s homes warmer, greener, and cheaper to run. The Mayor is particularly focused on improving the housing conditions of renters, to ensure that retrofitting benefits those who need it most. Three quarters of children and young people growing up in poverty in the North East live in rented homes. The North East CA’s mission of making the North East the home of real opportunity cannot be fulfilled without tackling fuel poverty.

This role will work across the organisation, as part of an in-house innovation team, to find innovative ways to deliver these commitments. This role will be asked to harness and analyse data to inform policy and service design, develop data-driven insights that shape strategic decision-making, and identify gaps, trends, and opportunities to accelerate impact.

We are proud to be an inclusive employer and we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, communities and experiences. We particularly encourage applications from candidates who are underrepresented in senior roles, including women, disabled people, LGBTQ+ people and those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds.

This position is part of the North East CA's participation in the Bloomberg Philanthropies Innovation team (i-team) programme. Charged with helping city officials and civic partners design and implement solutions that meet pressing local challenges, the i-team will expertly deploy data, collect insight, and collaborate across sectors to develop resident-centered interventions that improve people's lives. The i-team will receive technical assistance from regional and global specialists, and benefit from learnings from peers in city halls across the region and around the world. To date, the Bloomberg Philanthropies i-team initiative has reached over 100 cities across 16 countries and four continents—representing more than 100 million residents—and inspired hundreds of other local governments to embrace innovation systems and practices

The post is fixed term for 3 years.
