An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a forward thinking public health team in County Durham.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about the health and wellbeing of people in County Durham, to join our Public Health team as a Public Health Assistant Practitioner (Community Champions Programme Lead).

We are looking for a candidate with a track record of engaging and working with volunteers and communities, undertaking activities to support wellbeing, developing and delivering training activities, partnership working in a range of settings, with exceptional communication skills and ability to progress public health priorities through leadership and support.

The Community Champions programme is part of our wider engagement and communication approach to reach and support people at a locality level.

The Community Champions Programme Lead will:
• Engage and support local people who want to make a difference in their communities by becoming Community Champions.
• Build on the existing assets and partnerships in our communities promoting key messages, gathering feedback, helping us understand what is important in our communities and shaping how we can best respond.
• Support and empower a team of Champions providing key information and resources.
• Co-ordinate all aspects of recruitment and support of Community Champions.
• Deliver a regular, ongoing programme of training, engagement and update sessions to support Champions and engage guest speakers to deliver sessions of relevance.
• Support Champions to identify health and wellbeing related issues, needs, and priorities in their communities and to develop and deliver activities and campaigns to meet public health outcomes
• Engage and work in collaboration with Voluntary & Community sector, statutory partners, Area Action Partnerships and Durham County Council colleagues
• Develop and update processes and media formats to contact Champions
• Ensure Champions have timely access to up to date and changing information and guidance and have opportunities to share experiences and good practice
• Carrying out monitoring and evaluation of activities and the wider programme and prepare regular reports.
• Build on work carried out to date, linking with partner organisations to develop a Young Champions programme

Where the applicant is not already educated to degree level, there will be an opportunity to undertake a Level 5 Public Health apprenticeship degree over 36 months, of which 20% of the time will be spent in ‘off-the-job’ learning. For the remaining 80%, an annual workplan will be agreed relating to the specific duties and responsibilities of the post.

• Required Qualifications: NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in a relevant discipline
supplemented by public health improvement knowledge, acquired through training, courses and experience.

It is anticipated that interviews will be held week commencing 14th November, 2022
Interviews may be held remotely via Microsoft Teams.
