Fixed term for 2 years, this is an exciting opportunity to deliver the Reading for Wellbeing programme, within Libraries and Community Hubs. Delivered thanks to funding from, and in partnership with colleagues from Public Health. The team is based at City Library, but you will work across a range of community settings, promoting the positive benefits of Reading for Pleasure.
Building on successful pilot schemes across the North East, and benefitting from a bespoke training package, you will support people to benefit from the power of reading for pleasure and share their experiences with others to improve their wellbeing.
You will engage with groups and individuals who are dealing with loneliness, ill-health or have caring responsibilities.
Often focusing on areas of health inequality and social disadvantage, you will reach people who might never have looked at a book since school or set foot in a library.
You will introduce or reintroduce them to the joy and escape of reading for pleasure and bring people together to share their ideas and enthusiasms without fear of being judged.
You should be a great communicator, with the ability to empathise and build positive relationships with people of all ages and backgrounds.
An understanding of health inequalities and approaches to address this is desirable, as is experience of working with or supporting people with drug or alcohol issues.
A flexible approach and the ability to travel across the city is highly desirable.
We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post involves working with children and/or vulnerable adults. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions and a check of police information.
As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.
