About the role

Join a supportive team where you can make a real difference to children, young people, and families across Sunderland.  Applications are welcomed from individuals who share our commitment to high-quality SEND services and continuous improvement.  We are seeking an organised and motivated SEND Support Officer to join our busy SEND Team. This is an exciting opportunity to support statutory SEND processes and help improve outcomes for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Key duties include:
  • Supporting SEND panels, mediation requests, and SEND Tribunal appeals.
  • Managing and maintaining SEND data, reporting, and digital systems.
  • Coordinating transfers for children moving into and out of the local authority with an  EHCP.
  • Supporting Subject Access Requests and ensuring compliance with statutory timescales.
  • Working closely with families, schools, professionals, and partner agencies to deliver an effective service.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service. We will also carry out an online internet search for information that is publicly available online that might suggest that you are not fit to work with children or young people.

Due to recent changes in UKVI rules, this role does not meet the criteria for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship under the updated eligibility requirements effective 22 July 2025.

We want you to apply if you:
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills with good standard of literacy and numeracy at least GCSE Grade 4.
  • Excellent attention to detail and data management skills.
  • Experience working with confidential information and digital systems.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and improving outcomes for children and young people.
