Senior Accountant – North Tyneside

ENGIE are recruiting for Senior Accountant to be based in Quadrant, Silverlink North, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE27 0BY

This is a Fixed Term Contract for 12 months, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm and on offer will be a salary of £39,000 to £44,000 dependant on skills and experience. This role will report into the Principal Accountant.

ENGIE work in partnership with North Tyneside Council to provide a range of business services. We are looking to recruit a Temporary Senior Accountant to strengthen our Business Finance Team in this busy period of transformation for the Authority. We are particularly looking for individuals with experience of adult and or children’s social care and who can make an immediate impact supporting our client with budget monitoring, development of savings plans and budget setting, supporting transformation projects and developing management information.

The main duties and responsibilities are:

To provide a comprehensive, high quality financial management and accountancy service across the Council, Service Area or service group covering revenue, capital and balance sheet transactions in accordance with accounting standards and legislation, and appropriate Council plans and policies. To assist the Principal Accountant in the planning and development of accounting and financial services and systems within their span of control and influence. To monitor and maintain these services and systems.
To assist in the provision of financial advice and guidance for financial planning. To provide advice and guidance on financial management and accounting issues to Heads of Service, Managers and Budget Holders.
To assist the Principal Accountant in managing finance staff and associated resources.

The ideal candidate would be qualified CCAB/CIMA with;

Demonstrable experience of working with financial systems and management reporting in a complex organisation
Strong analytical and technical skills
Competent in the use of Excel at an advanced level
Ability to analyse and interpret and give financial advice on complex financial information and proposals
An understanding of the public sector, ideally local government
