Further Information
We're looking for a communications professional who can turn strategy into meaningful conversations.

Whether it's helping colleagues understand our priorities, bringing our vision to life through compelling campaigns, or ensuring people feel connected to the work that matters, you'll play a central role in shaping how we communicate across one of the UK's most ambitious regional authorities.

The Role

As our Senior Communications Officer, you'll lead engaging internal communications across the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority, helping colleagues stay informed, connected and engaged with our vision and priorities.

Working within the Communications and Marketing team, you'll develop and deliver impactful campaigns, manage internal channels and provide expert communications advice across the organisation.

You'll also work closely with colleagues across the organisation to identify great stories, celebrate successes and ensure our people are at the heart of our communications.

About You

You'll be an experienced communications professional with strong writing skills, excellent stakeholder management abilities and the confidence to provide strategic communications advice.

You'll have experience delivering successful internal communications campaigns across a complex organisation, managing competing priorities and creating compelling content that engages diverse audiences. You'll also be motivated by making a positive difference and helping people connect to a shared purpose.

Most importantly, you'll be someone who understands the value of communication in building trust, engagement and shared purpose.

What it isn’t

This isn't a role focused solely on internal communications.

Alongside leading internal engagement activity, you'll support wider external communications work including media relations, stakeholder engagement, reputation management and issue response. It's a varied role for a well-rounded communications professional who enjoys working across the full communications mix.

So, if you are…
  • are a skilled communicator who can bring complex issues to life;
  • enjoy working with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels;
  • can balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery; and
  • want to help shape the future of the North East,
…then we'd love to hear from you.

We are proud to be an inclusive employer, and we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, communities and experiences. We support flexible working and encourage applications from candidates who are under-represented including women, disabled people, LGBTQ+ people and those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds.

If you would like an informal discussion, or further information about this role please contact Tonia Cook, PA to Director Communications, Tonia.Cook@northeast-ca.gov.uk

It is anticipated that interviews will take place either w/c 30th November or w/c 7th December 2026.

Closing Date: Sunday 1st November 2026 at 23:59
