The Service
The post sits within the Strategic Transport Team as part of the Economy and Regeneration Service.

The Strategic Transport team have oversight of transport policy for the council and for developing the pipeline of strategic transport projects across all modes. This incorporates a range of exciting and high-profile projects including:

The reintroduction of rail passenger services between Ashington and Newcastle (The Northumberland Line)

Blyth Relief Road

Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIP)

Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP)

Moor Farm roundabout

The role
This is a key role where you will support the development of transport policy and strategy to underpin a transport infrastructure that supports a thriving economy for Northumberland.? You will provide support to the Strategic Transport team in developing policy with a particular focus on rail. You will ensure that all relevant strategies, action plans, policies, and statutory requirements are effectively developed and implemented.

The primary function of the role is to support the delivery of the Northumberland Line project which is the reintroduction of passenger rail services between Ashington and Newcastle. Responsibilities will include:

Representing Northumberland County Council within the project team and at stakeholder events. Communicating with residents, local businesses, operators, politicians and community groups.

Overseeing the delivery of the Northumberland Line social value strategy.

Longer term, the role will focus on developing the pipeline of strategic rail priorities across the county, including required investment along the East Coast Mainline and Tyne Valley Line.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills to join a growing team with a strong pipeline of future projects.

You will develop strong relationships with those organisations with a role to play in the strategic rail functions of the council including Transport North East, Network Rail, Nexus, local rail user groups and Train Operating Companies. You will proactively seek funding opportunities to draw additional resources into Northumberland.

A starting salary of £35,411 (Band 8)
25 days annual leave plus public and bank holidays (rising to 30 after 5 years of service) (pro-rata for part-time employees)
