An exciting employment opportunity has arisen for a social worker to join the growing and developing Kinship Care Team.

South Tyneside Council is committed to supporting children to remain within their birth families and networks, when it is safe for them to do so and also recognises that caring for children in kinship arrangements can be hugely rewarding yet challenging at times. The Kinship Care Team undertakes focussed and specialised assessments of kinship carers and delivers tailored support to kinship families.

We are looking for a child focussed, skilled and enthusiastic person to join the service. The role involves undertaking assessment at a number of different stages of planning for children, with this work presented in a number of forums, including to court within legal proceedings. Candidates must have experience in completing good quality evidence-based assessments, be able to manage time effectively, hold a relevant social work qualification and be able to build effective working relationships with children, families and partner agencies. As part of an innovative team, staff need to be dynamic, and able to adjust their approach, as we learn more about how to best support kinship families and respond to this learning.

Staff within the Kinship Care Team will work with key partners to develop a shared understanding of the service and to gather feedback to help shape ongoing and future development.

Please see the attached job description and person specification which provides more detail about the role. If you would like to discuss this post in more detail please contact Lisa Henderson, Practice Manager on (0191) 4244207 or Lisa.Henderson@southtyneside.gov.uk
