A rare opportunity to join the Procurement Management Team at Durham County Council has become available. The Council are seeking to recruit a Strategic Category Manager to lead and manage the Construction portfolio as part of an award winning and proactive procurement team of 25 employees.

The Council is the largest in the North East and the seventh largest by population and as well as winning the Cabinet Office first ever award for social value leadership for an organisation, the annual spend is approximately £700 million on goods, works and services.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

This strategic role is one of four Strategic Category Managers (all have line management responsibility of 4 or 5 officers) who report to the Chief Procurement Officer and who hold Category Management responsibility.

This key management role contains responsibilities for strategic category management leadership and procurement project delivery, as well as development and implementation of procurement strategy, commercial opportunities, delivery of social value, policies, systems, processes, training, advice, spend analysis, and work programmes to achieve an efficient e-enabled single way of working.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You should be fully MCIPS qualified (Professional Diploma in Procurement and Supply Level 6) or part qualified with a firm commitment to achieve full MCIPS within a mutually agreed timescale. A degree or degree level qualification in an appropriate subject may also be considered to be acceptable.

HYBRID WORKING

Durham County Council currently operates a hybrid working policy where a model of 2 days in the workplace and 3 days at home/remote will apply. This model is pro-rated for part time roles and arrangements are at managers discretion, alternatively you can work all of your contracted hours within the workplace if you prefer.
