As part of the Council’s Annual Apprenticeship Program, we have an amazing career development opportunity to gain work experience in our Children’s Services whilst studying towards Level 4 - Children & Young People Practitioner Apprenticeship qualification. We take pride in being a great place to work, where staff are valued, trusted, and supported to make a positive contribution. We are looking for someone who wants to make a difference, to serve the people of our borough, and who is committed to their own development.

As a Trainee Family Worker, you will work with children, young people, and their families, providing discrete pieces of work on cases held by Social Workers. You will assist in effective planning to set achievable goals, increase family resilience, and secure good outcomes for children.
This role is rewarding and requires you to work with vulnerable children and their families using a whole family approach to strengthen relationships. Your approach will be flexible, self-motivated, energetic, and pragmatic.
The training will involve many opportunities to shadow colleagues working right across the service, supporting a diverse caseload of children and young people. You will also have access to excellent in-house and external professional development.
As this is an apprenticeship opportunity, you will be provided with all the training and support you need to be a success. All you need to demonstrate in your application be shortlisted for this opportunity is the following:
• A Level 3 qualification (A-levels or BTec - expected or obtained) or the equivalent level of work experience.
• GCSE (or equivalent) English Language & Maths at Grade C / 4 or above
• Effective communication skills - listening, spoken and written
• A team player who is not afraid to try something new
• Commitment to own personal and professional development
• A passion for working with young people

Please outline in your personal statement in your online application how you meet this criteria.
If you are looking for a career where you can make a real difference to others, we welcome an application from you.

We offer a competitive apprenticeship salary, generous annual leave, local government pension and access to a number of other benefits like discounts at high street and online retailers, and health & wellbeing support including access to mental wellbeing support and physiotherapy services.

And that’s not all – We also offer a degree of flexible working with the opportunity of working from home in line with the Council’s Flexible Working Policy, following completion of a 6-month probationary period.
