An opportunity has arisen to appoint an Urban Traffic Management Control (UTMC) Technician.

As part of a team, the UTMC Technician will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the UTMC control room on behalf of the Tyne and Wear Local Transport Plan Partners (Gateshead Council, Newcastle City Council, North Tyneside Council, South Tyneside Council, Sunderland City Council and Nexus).

Tasks include, co-ordinating intelligent transport systems in the Tyne and Wear area to maximise network performance and provide accurate and timely information to partners, stakeholders and the traveling public.

Good IT skills and the ability to analyse and interpret complex data to help you solve problems on the transport network are essential. You will also have good communication and administrative skills. Knowledge of Traffic Management Act 2004 and of Air Quality legislation is desirable.

You will be required to participate in a shift rota and are responsible to the UTMC Manager and will be based in Newcastle University. Attendance outside of normal working hours to assist with events and emergency situations will also be required.
