Further Information
Help us create safe, inclusive and high-performing workplaces across the North East.
We're looking for a practical, proactive and people-focused Workplace Health, Safety and Facilities Advisor to join our People and Culture team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring our workplaces are safe, compliant, accessible and welcoming environments where colleagues can thrive. Working across our office locations, you'll provide trusted advice on workplace health and safety, coordinate facilities-related compliance activities and support continuous improvements that make a real difference to the colleague experience.
If you're passionate about creating positive workplace cultures, enjoy building strong relationships and can translate health and safety requirements into practical solutions, we'd love to hear from you.
The Role
As Workplace Health, Safety and Facilities Advisor, you'll be the first point of contact for routine workplace health, safety and facilities matters, working closely with colleagues, managers, facilities providers, contractors, landlords and partner organisations. You will help ensure North East MSA maintains safe, healthy and well-managed workplaces through effective compliance monitoring, risk management and practical support.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing practical health and safety advice and guidance across office and corporate workplace environments.
- Supporting workplace inspections, audits, compliance checks and action planning.
- Coordinating fire safety, first aid, emergency preparedness and workplace wellbeing arrangements.
- Supporting managers with risk assessments, including DSE, lone working, workplace accessibility and welfare considerations.
- Investigating workplace incidents and helping identify practical improvements.
- Delivering training, guidance and awareness sessions to colleagues and managers.
- Working with facilities providers, building management teams, landlords and contractors to resolve workplace issues.
- Producing reports and compliance information to support governance and continuous improvement activities.
About You
You will be someone who combines strong technical health and safety knowledge with a pragmatic and collaborative approach. You'll be comfortable working across a range of workplace environments, building positive relationships and supporting colleagues at all levels of the organisation.
We're particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- A recognised health and safety qualification, such as the NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
- Experience providing workplace health and safety advice within an office, public sector, corporate or facilities management environment.
- Experience carrying out inspections, audits, compliance checks and action tracking.
- Knowledge of workplace risk assessment processes, including DSE, fire safety, accessibility and workplace wellbeing considerations.
- An understanding of incident management, emergency planning, first aid provision and fire safety arrangements.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A proactive, solution-focused approach and a genuine commitment to creating safe and inclusive workplaces. You will thrive in this role if you're approachable, credible and motivated by helping others, and if you enjoy turning legislation, guidance and compliance requirements into practical actions that support colleagues and organisational success.
What it Isn't
This isn't a traditional operational health and safety role focused on construction sites, heavy industry or highly hazardous environments.
Instead, this role is centred on office-based and corporate workplace settings, where success comes from building relationships, influencing positive behaviours, coordinating compliance activities and creating safe, inclusive and effective workplaces. You will spend as much time working with people and solving practical workplace challenges as you will reviewing procedures, inspections and compliance records.
So, if you...
Want to help shape safe, accessible and welcoming workplaces.
Enjoy building strong partnerships with colleagues and stakeholders.
Are passionate about promoting positive health, safety and wellbeing cultures.
Can combine attention to detail with a practical, common-sense approach.
Share our values of Strive for Brilliance, One Team, Drive Sustainability, Make it Happen and Be Inclusive....then we'd love to hear from you.
We are proud to be an inclusive employer, and we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, communities and experiences. We support flexible working and encourage applications from candidates who are under-represented including women, disabled people, LGBTQ+ people and those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds.
