The role

We are looking for skilled and enthusiastic Software Developers who can help us build applications and digital services that make a real difference to people’s lives.

Be part of the team at Northumberland that is making a positive difference to our residents, businesses, our staff and visitors using the best of digital design, data and technology. We are embedding multi-channel service design to solve real problems and meet user needs. Our Software Developers design, build, test and run applications as part of multi-functional agile delivery teams.

You’ll thrive using agile methods and enjoy working openly, collaboratively and as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside other roles such as: delivery managers, business analysts and business experts.

Essential requirements:

We’re interested in people who:

Understand software design principles

Understand and have experience working in agile environments

Understand web security and accessibility

Have experience working with web technologies and front-end

Have experience of open source technologies such as Python, Java, JavaScript, Node.js

Understand deploying applications on cloud-based environments like AWS and Azure

Have a good understanding of TDD and BDD

Have an understanding of SQL and noSQL database applications such as Postgres, MySQL, and MongoDB

Have experience with distributed version control systems such as Git

Ideally have some experience with containerisation processes and tools such as Docker and Kubernetes

Knowledge and experience of APIs, RESTful services and Microservice Architectures

We are offering:

A starting salary of £32,910 (Band 8 £32,910 - £36,922)
Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme (or other pension scheme)
