We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated Welfare Assistance Officer to work within our successful Welfare Assistance Team. This is an exciting opportunity and we would love to hear from you if you have the ability to think innovatively and embrace new ways of working in a challenging and rewarding working environment. There are challenges in engaging with some customers because of their vulnerability or the difficult circumstances they may be experiencing.

As part of Stockton Revenues & Benefits we provide discretionary payments to customers who require further financial assistance (in addition to any welfare benefits) with housing costs, as well as crisis support for people in immediate need, and settlement support to help people remain or move back into the community.

As the successful candidate you will be responsible to the Welfare, Policy and Research Team Leader. to deliver effective and efficient customer focussed outcomes , determining applications in respect of discretionary housing payments, discretionary council tax hardship discount and welfare assistance and personal budgeting support. Where a payment cannot be made you will be expected to identify other forms of assistance which may be available.

Recent relevant work experience of providing welfare benefits, budgeting or debt advice to customers from a variety of backgrounds is desirable.

This post has been identified as suitable for flexible working which enables the postholder to work 40% of their working time away from the office
