The anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 2025 will attract visitors from across the world, celebrating our heritage, changing perceptions about the area, and driving long term visitor economy growth.

Stockton Borough Council, Darlington Borough Council, Tees Valley Combined Authority and Durham County Council are working in partnership to deliver a vibrant, inspiring and ambitious programme of activity and events that celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of the modern passenger railway

On behalf of the Partnership, Stockton Council is seeking to employ a Bicentenary Co-Ordinator, initially for a fixed 2-year term, to work alongside the S&DR Partnership leads.

The post holder will lead the co-ordination of the S&DR Bicentenary event programme and planned activity, ensuring a cohesive approach to delivery. Working across the core partner museums: Locomotion Museum Shildon, Head of Steam Darlington, and Preston Hall Museum Stockton you will act as a champion and advocate for the S&DR project and raise awareness and interest at a community level, encouraging community events, parades, celebrations and installations.

You will have experience of developing multi-faceted public events and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders including local authorities, schools and colleges, heritage and arts bodies. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and you be able to think creatively and develop cohesive event plans. An understanding of heritage events and attractions is desirable.

The postholder will be based within the Stockton Council Events team and will work closely with the Assistant Director for Culture, Leisure and Events and the Director of Community Services, Environment and Culture who chairs the S&DR Rail Heritage Partnership Board.

Starting salary is negotiable depending on knowledge and experience.
