We make a difference… to the lives of our residents and the lives of our employees.

Our ambitious vision, corporate strategy and values put people at the heart of what we do – be that our residents or our staff.  We have a determination to make South Tyneside a place where people can live healthy, happy and fulfilled lives and need an experienced and skilled Assurance and Risk Manager to help us get there.

We invest in and care for our workforce as we believe people whose work and working environment makes a positive difference to them personally, are more equipped and motivated to make a difference to the lives of our residents.  Working for us means working for an organisation that truly believes in a work/life balance through flexible working practices, who offers generous benefit schemes, and invests in its staff to provide fulfilling careers.

The role is a vital one and its importance and influence is reflected by its position within the organisation.  Reporting directly to the Council’s Chief Financial Officer you will be the most senior employee responsible for audit.  You will be a creative thinker that can apply your knowledge and experience of assurance and risk in a key leadership role.  Leading our experienced and motivated assurance and risk team, you will ensure organisation-wide support of an effective governance framework.

You will bring with you the skills to work collaboratively, build relationships and be solution focussed whilst providing key expertise to strengthen our organisational resilience.  In return we will provide the support and our drive to succeed to enable you to thrive in your role.

South Tyneside is a unique place: the natural assets, heritage and geography set it apart from the rest of the region and while the story of decline of traditional industries and national disinvestment is common, the resilience, pride and solidarity of the people make South Tyneside special.  Join us on our journey to make a difference.
