About the team
Our School Admissions & Transfers Team plays a vital role in ensuring children and young people across Stockton-on-Tees have access to education. The team is responsible for coordinating school admissions and in-year transfer applications, making sure every application is processed fairly, consistently and in line with national legislation and statutory timescales.

Working closely with schools, families and a range of education and children's services professionals, we help navigate what can often be an important and sometimes challenging process for parents and carers. We are a supportive, knowledgeable team that is committed to finding positive outcomes for children and delivering an excellent customer experience.

About the role
As a School Admissions & Transfers Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of the Council's statutory school admissions duties.

You will:
  • Process school admission and in-year transfer applications in line with legislation, statutory guidance and key deadlines.
  • Provide information, advice and support to parents, carers, schools and partner agencies, including handling complex or sensitive enquiries.
  • Analyse applications, assess available school places and help identify practical solutions for families.
  • Maintain accurate pupil records and use a range of specialist systems to manage and monitor applications.
  • Work closely with schools and Children's Services colleagues to coordinate the allocation of school places and support positive outcomes.
  • Assist with the delivery of the annual primary and secondary admissions rounds, helping ensure statutory national offer deadlines are met.

About you
We're looking for someone who is organised, resilient and passionate about delivering excellent customer service. You'll be confident working with detailed information, managing competing priorities and building positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

You will have:
  • Experience of working in a busy administrative, admissions, education or customer-focused environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain processes clearly and handle difficult conversations professionally.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads while working to strict deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and experience maintaining accurate records and sensitive information.
  • Strong digital skills, including experience using databases and Microsoft Office applications.
  • A commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people through a solution-focused approach.
