We’ve got an exciting opportunity for you to join our Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) team as a Skilled Maintainer. Play a vital role in keeping our transport network running smoothly. This hands-on role requires independence, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety standards—helping deliver seamless journeys for thousands of passengers every day.

Typical Day
Home Base: Our South Gosforth infrastructure office.
Shift Pattern: 5 days out of 7 on a day shift roster covering from 06:30 till 21:30 7 days a week.
Your Mission:
Fine-tune, fix, and maintain ticketing systems—machines, validators, gatelines, and more.
You’ll be a field-based maintainer working across all 60 metro stations.
Meet customers, collaborate with colleagues, and keep things running smoothly.

About You
Served a recognised apprenticeship
Electrical/electronic BTC/ONC or equivalent
Tech-savvy with distributed systems and end-point devices
Able to prioritise and work independently
Experience with problem solving on electrical equipment
Driving licence

You’ll join a close-knit AFC team of 16, part of the wider ICT maintenance and operations family. You’ll work alongside 11 other maintainers and report to the AFC Supervisor.

Your basic salary will be £30,559 with generous allowances paid all year round
